So as of fairly recent, we know about Guillermo Del Toro's The Strain - the upcoming TV series based on Del Toro and Chuck Hogan's very epic and very gruesome trilogy of vampire novels (IMDB synopsis here).
The story centers around a viral outbreak of an evil strain of vampirism and promises murder, mayhem, and lots of blood.
And right in the middle of it: Hollywoods most adorable - Sean Astin.
The rest of the cast includes among others the great John Hurt, Jonathan Hyde, Corey Stroll, Kevin Druand, Mia Maestro, 24's Leslie Hope, and DelToro's go-to master of disguise: Doug Jones.
Sean will play the role of Jim Kent. And I can't help but notice: There is a lot of conflicting information about this character.
According to the readers, Kent is barely a side-note in the books, yet according to the Hollywood Reporter...
Also, I don't know how to say this, but from what I hear, Kent doesn't exactly stick around for very long (if you catch my drift) in the original story material.
On the upside, they seem to have expanded the character quite a bit for the TV show already and Guillermo Del Toro is extremely reliable when it comes to casting and executive choices, so here's hoping that Sean will get to stay on. News of a face mold being made are also pretty good, though it mostly indicates that there will be special effects. As said before, we can't guarantee anything here and this is just a speculative thread, but hey, even if Sean's character doesn't get to hang around for all that long, at least there seems to be a chance we might see him turn into a vampire. Wait, did I just type that?! Well, whether it happens or not, it would definitely be a sight to behold.
Watch this thread for more wild speculations and updates as things progress. Maybe you would like to add some of your own?
Work on the pilot will start mid-September in Toronto. Looking forward to seeing this whole thing progress!

The character is a savvy and trustworthy guy who is an open political operative of the Canary Group and best friends with Goodweather and Nora (Alias' Mia Maestro). He unknowingly betrays their friendship when he is coerced into releasing a cabinet out of quarantine that contains a potentially deadly virus. When asked why, Jim confesses he was embezzling CDC funds to help pay for his and his girlfriend's IVF treatments.
