Our official thread dedicated to Sean's latest feature The Surface, currently filming in Milwaukee. The movie is directed by Gil Cates Jr. (co-producer of the Steve Jobs biopic Jobs), produced by Jeff Gendelman, and co-stars Chris Mulkey and Mimi Rogers. The Surface is an indie thriller about two men, both at the end of their rope, who suddenly meet one day in the middle of Lake Michigan. Most of the story is set on a tiny little 70's era motorboat, which makes for a pretty interesting setup already. This promises to be the first time in years that Sean is actually headlining a potential hit! Local Milwaukee news channels are already pretty excited and I think we can be, too. Check out all of the great coverage (bare chests and baseball included!) if you haven't already. seanastinfan.blogspot.de/search/label/The%20SurfaceWe'll be talking more about this as things develop. I have high hopes about this movie. The story grabbed my attention the first I heard of it, and it is clearly a labor of love. The character gives Sean a perfect opportunity to put in the type of nuanced emotional performance that made me fall for him in the first place. We may see tears, anger, fear and hope. Sean has been in Milwaukee for over 3 weeks, and it looks like they'll be filming for about another week. Here's a photo he posted yesterday. Not sure if that is him in the boat or not. Attachments:

There is! The photo looks beautiful, by the way. Heard about the shortage in local film grants recently, but something tells me that the production might not be all that dependent on them.

So this is it: Filming officially wrapped this past week - and look at all the gorgeous!
Bet they were really sad to see him leave! But hey, good news. They're done, so they didn't run into any difficulties with production funding after all.
Cue post-production time.

I had an interesting thought yesterday about Mitch and Mister Smith. Both are "despondent souls" who've suffered loss and hard luck, and both seek escape in lakes. Smith is saved by God, and Mitch by the need to save Kelly.
If Sean is half as good as Mitch as he was as Smith, it will be a memorable movie.
